Lamyaa Hashim has lectured internationally on Islamic and Middle Eastern Socio-Economics and Palestinian issues for over 25 years. She served as the world news editor for Islamic Horizons magazine in the early nineties, and her journalism and poems have appeared in various publications around the world and translated into several languages. She reported live from the Middle East as a correspondent for the radio program Sout El-Arab Wel Aruba (Voice of the Arabs and Arabia), and is an avid human rights supporter.

Having lived and traveled all over the world and the United States, she has gained rare insights into people and places that are generally little understood. In each place, she has taken an interest in learning their folkloric traditions and lifestyles along the way, and thus has picked up skills in wool and fiber spinning, weaving, felting, needle arts, cheese making, soap making and natural and “folk” healing.

Journalistic specialties and interest: Islam: Practices, Beliefs and Law, Middle Eastern Affairs, Palestinian Issues, Arabic and Islamic History, Rural Living, Natural/Healthy Lifestyles, Palestinian and Rural American Folklore, World Travel, Environmental Issues, Archaeology of the Middle East, Canaanite Studies and Homeschooling. Lamyaa is a member of the Muslimah Writers Alliance, the Muslim American Journalists Association, Midwest Writers Guild and Reporters Sans Frontiers (Reporters Without Borders).

Her educational background includes Cardiovascular Science, Holistic Nutrition, Political Science/Modern Middle Eastern Studies and Islamic Jurisprudence, having studied in both the United States and Saudi Arabia.

Currently, she is working on a children’s book series and a compilation of her poetry, prose and photos reflecting life in the Palestinian Diaspora.
